Rural Host Homes
Sanctuary, Incorporated recognizes that Guam needs to strengthen the support services that are not readily available to Guam's youth. Through the Rural Host Homes (RHH) Demonstration Project, families in the community volunteer their homes to host runaway and homeless youth in need of temporary emergency shelter. The project works to enhance the current foster care system. A strengthened foster care system benefits the island community by increasing service delivery and improving systems of care that are available to youth and families on Guam.
Services provided through RHH are: supportive counseling to the youth and families, coaching and mentoring, quarterly trainings and supervision by caseworkers when placement occurs. Additional services are provided through Sanctuary, Incorporated such as: youth and adult anger management, self-esteem, tobacco cessation, drug and alcohol, parent support, parenting skills and aftercare services.
By providing these services, Rural Host Homes will assist youth in crisis to become independent, self-sufficient and contributing members of society. In addition, the program promotes the social and mental wellness of these young people by providing a healthy alternative to living on the streets.
